Barbara Gerard Mitchell

My goal as a professional artist is to share with the viewer, the vision that has long been a part of my being.  My name is Barbara Gerard-Mitchell and I am a native of the state of Montana and a member of the Blackfeet Tribe.  Growing up in this rich environment has inspired me to paint the beauty of the land and the people.  I have dedicated my lifetime to observing, capturing and creating through the use of oils and acrylics.  I have created my own style by combining the realistic subject incorporated with the colorful designs of the Blackfeet nation.  My sought after paintings have been purchased by clients throughout the country, which includes one of my most prominent, commissioned pieces, which hangs in the lobby of the prestigious Glacier Park Lodge. I have devoted most of my life traveling throughout Montana and painting the great outdoors which I identify so well with.  To begin a painting, I gather information and then retreat to my studio for canvas preparation with a warm under-painting of red-oxide pigment.  Once I compose my subject, I then incorporate the use of designs.  Over the years, I have gained technical skills from studying master artists. I would like to extend an invitation for you to enjoy the paintings I have created that express the unique and rich environment of my life experiences and bring to life my continuous development and devotion as an artist.
